My Education

I am pursuing my Masters in Human Computer Interaction from Carnegie Mellon University, graduating in August’ 10. I am currently working on the Capstone project for General Dynamics Viz to define different levels of CoMotion (sense-making platform) users and reduce barriers in visualization production, configuration and data import, to move towards a gentle slope learning curve that facilitates third party development.

I was a PhD student in Donald Bren School of Information & Computer Sciences, in Informatics program at University of California Irvine. Here, I worked in the fields of social analysis of computing and human-computer Interaction. My research was focused on analyzing interactions in virtual environments in the World of Warcraft. I also performed ethnographic study on how people use GPS device while driving and socio-analysis of online behavior of members in Social Network Service communities (Orkut.com). I have been thrilled to explore the excellent theoretical and research aspect of experience design. I completed my PhD level coursework and discontinued the program to work in industry.

As an undergraduate design student at IIT Guwahati, with a major in communication and interaction design, I was fortunate to explore the technical rationality side of things equally with my creative thinking. My education has instilled in me the importance of the process of design. If the process is done right, the design at the end reflects it. My courses have included a wide range of design methodologies from Usability Analysis, to System and Process Analysis.

Work Experience

I joined Saba software as Sr. User Experience Designer responsible for multiple modules in their Suite of Learning Management and virtual conferencing environment. I worked as the design touch point for the 200 people product company, collaborating closely with the product management to gather requirements and engineering team to ensure integrity of user interface. I authored design specs and proposal for migration to a new framework.

As an experience researcher and Interaction Designer at Infosys Technologies Limited, Bangalore, my learning expanded to better understanding of the different stakeholders in a project and applying the user centered methodology in enhancing the experience of various products and applications. I worked on multiple client projects, proposals, frameworks designing the user interface, architecture and performing competitive benchmarking and sales pitching. Additionally, I was part of the specialized Usability team there responsible for evaluation and reviews of several in-house as well as client projects.

More recently, I interned as an user experience architect in Data and Commercial Solutions Group at ESRI, Redlands, CA working in a multidisclipinary team engaged in building a rich interaction web-based geographical information application (Business Analyst Online). During the summers of 2005, I worked at User Centered Technologies Research Lab, Fh-Vorarlberg, Austria during my summer internship.
